Tonight at the Uptown Bar, Cecil Otter, Building Better Bombs, The Millionth Word and Person Hurter are playing a show in support of their buddy who broke his collar bone after being body slammed by a large man. Ouch. Show starts at 9:30, 5 bucks at the door, all proceeds go to Andrew “FOOD HEAD” Troldahl and his unfortunate situation.

It was a sad day when Isaac Hayes left this Earth, and the world has been just that much less funky since. In honor of the late great Black Moses, Oak Street Cinema is putting on a Soul Cinema Tribute to the bad one extending through Thursday the 25th. Pay your respects by watching Hayes hand out beat downs in the classic blaxploitation flick Truck Turner, hear his unmistakable soundtrack in Shaft, and watch his legendary performance at the 1972 Wattstax music festival in Wattstax. If you only know Hayes as a Scientologist or the voice of a cartoon character, you are a sad, sad individual and you desperately need to educate yourself on the brilliance Isaac Hayes has given to us. Head down to the Oak Street and get The Knowledge.

Athletes In Slacks, Beatrix*JAR and Nyteowl are doing a show at Kitty Kat Club this Wednesday, showcasing their local electronic talent and making toys say funny things. Go grab a couch and take in the oddities of these circuit-benders in style. The show is free, can’t complain too much there. Check out my interview with Beatrix*JAR here.
