Movies About Morticians

By Ashley Heerema

Peacemakers (2003)— As forensic science is becoming a tool in crimefighting in the 1800s, a federal marshal, an ex-Pinkerton agent and a local mortician team up to fight crime in Silver City, Colorado.

Annabelle (2005)— Mortician Henry Spencer falls in love with Annabelle, a corpse in his morgue. Despite the obvious complications, Annabelle is able to teach him that love is not as he thought.

Beverly Hills Bodysnatchers (1989)—Using borrowed money from the mafia, a doctor and a mortician begin a campaign to reanimate corpses. When they can’t pay it back, the mob boss sends a few “babysitters” to keep an eye on them: his nephews. The young men are soon caught up in the mess, and problems arise when a few shady characters are brought back from the dead.

wake4Birds Die (2000)–Eric, Brian and Alan are three small-town bums unwillingly thrust into the death care industry when Eric’s aunt dies, leaving him sole executor of her funeral. Along the way they meet a bunch of offbeat characters, including a mortician, a waitress and an embalming trainee, and are forced to confront their own feelings on death and mortality.

Corpses (2004)—Fred the undertaker is bankrupt, his wife just left him for his assistant’s girlfriend’s father and he accidentally developed an embalming fluid that brings the dead back to life. Luckily, he has complete control over the zombies, who need regular doses of his miracle liquid to stay alive. When Fred receives an eviction notice, he decides to use his zombies to right all the wrongs in his life. But the dead soon turn against him when all of his embalming liquid is accidentally lost.

Just Buried (2007)— When Oliver returns to his hometown for his father’s funeral, he learns that he has been left the family business—an almost bankrupt funeral home. That evening, he accidentally strikes and kills a hiker while he is out on the town with the sexy mortician, Roberta. Disguising it as an accident, he and Roberta get their first customer and an inspiration for a terrible new business plan. As the body count rises, he struggles with his feelings for Roberta, who is in a relationship with the local sheriff, and his stepmother, Luanne.

Mortuary Academy (1988)– Like “Police Academy”, this movie is a spoof about a wacky school with nerdy students and a director who engages in necrophilia. Hijinks galore.

Scarlet Momentum (2004)— After her mother’s death, Scarlet’s father becomes obsessed with his job. She spends all of her time with him in their basement morgue, hoping to capture his attention and
learn the truth behind what happened to her mother. She soon realizes the only way she may be able to capture his attention is to become like his only obsession—to die.
