Take it or Leave it

Adrienne Nick listens to indie rock and has Beatles posters on her living room walls. Fairly commonplace, yet Nick is somewhat exceptional in her music tastes because she is active in bringing the bands she loves into town.
Nick books concerts for the Whole Music Club, working under the Minnesota Programs and Activities Council, the same organization that runs Gophers After Dark and the movies at Coffman. Motivated by her desire to be involved in music, Nick began volunteering at the Whole her freshman year. The work she did was not exciting; she sold tickets and stamped hands, mostly. But the chance to see all the bands that came through and be involved in the community was more than enough compensation for the boring, unpaid grunt work. And the work began to pay off big-time when she went out on a limb and booked a show with another volunteer. They contacted two agents and got three bands out of it, and Nick had her work for the next year cut out for her.
Now Nick works contacting agents, negotiating prices, and trying to keep bands happy. It can be stressful, but Nick enjoys the chance both to see the bands she wants to see and to bring entertainment to her fellow students. “We are programs for students by students, so we try to do what people on campus want to see and for affordable prices. Usually we book things that we would like to see, but that tends to be what other people want to see too,” Nick says. Her attitude towards the work is bright and enthusiastic, limited only by financial constraints: “Staying within our budget is very tough, because there are so many bands we want to see!”
Adrienne Nick is a sophomore psych major, and will fuck you up if you shit-talk the Strokes.
