Photographer Joanne Verburg will host this poetry reading featuring local writers Deborah Keenan, Gar Elliot Patterson, Patricia Kirkpatrick, Angela Shannon, Jim Lenfesty, and Michael Dennis Brown. The reading is inspired by Verburg’s work and will focus on the importance of our landscape.

Raymond Federman
Oct. 3, 12:30 p.m.
University of Minnesota, Nolte Hall

Federman, a bilingual writer born in France, reads from his book “My Body in Nine Parts.” Although mostly known for his work in fiction, Federman has published poetry and translated others’ work. His writing engages postmodernism.

Shawn Wong and Ed Bok Lee
Oct. 7, 1:00 p.m.
University of Minnesota Bookstore

Two multi-disciplined authors come together to share their Asian American work. Shawn Wong has published fiction, poetry and essays, while also appearing in “Becoming American: The Chinese Experience” a Bill Moyers 2003 special. Likewise, Ed Bok Lee’s poetry and plays take on the Asian American experience.

Ha Jin
Oct. 8, 7:00 p.m.
The Loft Literary Center

Born in mainland China, Ha Jin experienced life during China’s Cultural Revolution. Realizing he would not be able to write freely in China, Jin immigrated to the United States, where he has published poetry, short fiction, and a novel.

Lorna Landvik (Happy Hour Book Club)

Loran Landvik will read and discuss her new book “On My Stars,” a coming of age tale following Violet, a young girl growing up in the Great Depression. Violet overcomes neglect, loneliness, and disaster to find solace in music. Have a drink and enjoy a contemporary author.
