New Student Group Face The Static

Static. Fuzz. That antsy, pestering grayish color that coats your T.V. screen. That seemingly endless drone of unconstructed noise that floods your ears and clogs your senses. Most of the time, you can alleviate these minor nuisances with one click of your remote control, or if you’re old school, by properly adjusting the needle on your classic phonograph. On February 10, in the dark of the night, someone posted a series of writings by people of color in a stairwell at the U of M Barbara Barker Center for Dance. Decades after Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X and Huey P. Newton, white pundits are still acting as surprised as ever when they see a black man speak out radically against this country.
