Ask Uncle Ethan

Dear Uncle Ethan,
I’m a TA for an intro anatomy course and I’m in a bit of a pickle. I have a bit of a crush on one of the students in my lab section. I’m not too worried about the age gap (it’s small); It’s the ethics of dating a student that I’m concerned about. I know student-professor relationships are explicitly forbidden, but I haven’t heard anything regarding TAs. Thoughts?

Dear EC,
I, for one, have always been an advocate of student-teacher relationships. Shared academic interests naturally translate to romantic compatibility. I’ve seen many such relationships blossom from the hallowed halls of our University—though I hope there’s not too much blossoming in the halls themselves, if you know what I mean.
They say that a woman will look for a man like her father, and as an older man in a position of power, you’re halfway there!
An added bonus: when you’re not courting the young lady, you can tutor her on the finer points of anatomy. Just don’t give her the test answers!
Dear Uncle Ethan,
I haven’t been on a date in ages, and a friend of mine told me I should try internet dating. What do you think?
-Curious
Dear Curious,
O, Internet, bestower of all things good! If you can dream it, Internet can provide it, from pyramid schemes to prescription drugs, from pornographic images to lolcats. And now, it can even provide us with romance with the same convenience and ease of eBay! But beware! There is a legend that internet dating can flood your inbox with a torrent of dick pictures. You have been warned.
You are inept. Send your problems to UncleEthan@wakemag.org He can make it better.
