“Call Her Daddy”

The Cult of the Daddy Gang

By Emma Niemaszyk

It’s a Friday night and I’m getting ready for a party. It’s a “Call Her Daddy” party, which would probably confuse people who haven’t heard of the year-old podcast on Barstool. When people ask about it, not knowing what they’re getting into, I tell them that it’s a sex podcast. When  I get to the party, there’s a giant sheet on the wall, spray painted with “Degrade Me.” This is a reference to the first episode, talking about a sext that had gone in a different direction.

Who could predict that thousands of people would count down the days every week, waiting for Wednesday, to hear two millennials talk about sex for an hour? Alexandra Cooper and Sofia Franklyn, the hosts of “Call Her Daddy,” are the new goddesses of sex, and they take questions. Some of it hilarious, some of it comforting, some of it unsettling, the two twenty-something women say what many people need to hear but are afraid to ask. So what is this obsession? They offer advice on anything you need—from giving a Gluck Gluck that’s up to standards (always the 9000) or how to really please a girl. Franklyn and Cooper tell stories from experience. On Barstool, it says, “the two exploit the f*ck out of their crazy lives, making you feel a hell of a lot better about yours.” Most interesting could be the questions asked by the listeners—hearing them may make you feel better about your sex life.

Their distinct looks have been endlessly repeated this Halloween season. The iconic cover of the podcast shows Franklyn and Cooper, side by side. Best friend duos have replicated the costume over and over—blonde hair on the left, brown hair on the right. Blue and orange tank tops. Cooper with her mouth open, Franklyn with a finger to her cheek.

“Call Her Daddy” could be considered a new form of feminism. Though not just for women (the podcast is the only one on Barstool whose listeners are almost 50% men and 50% women), the show promotes sexual freedom and the ability to do whatever the hell makes you feel good. Barstool just released their newest episode, “You F*cked Up, Now What?” Be sure to give it a listen and become a part of the #daddygang.
